Cervical cancer, once the leading cause of death in American women, is now a preventable disease. Yet many women neglect their cervical health until it’s too late. In time for Cervical Health Awareness Month, LifeScript answers 10 common questions about the disease. Plus, test your women’s health IQ with our quiz…

In 1950, the development and use of the Pap smear was a milestone in women’s health. The test became a routine part of women’s preventive care, and cervical cancer deaths plunged almost 75% between 1955 and 1970. Yet nobody knew what caused cervical cancer.

Now we do. With the discovery of Human papillomavirus (HPV) as the main cause of cervical cancer, the fight is on to squash the disease.

Cervical cancer can be prevented or cured in most cases when caught early. So it’s crucial for women to get the facts. Get all the facts at LifeScript.

Mom Time in '09 entry

What is it that you do (did) to take time for yourself? Well....about 26 years ago, when I had 2 rambunctious, inquisitive kids at home, I would escape to the bathroom and close and lock the door! (sometime the only ME time I could get) LOL I also took a long soakie bath with candles and music (used to muffle the little voices at the door wanting to know what I was doing and to ask hundreds of questions). Advice to the younger moms...TAKE THE TIME!... it doesn't make you a bad mom for wanting to be away from the kids so don't fall into the guilt trap. A good mom knows when she needs ME time. It will make her a better mom. Been There, Done That...didn't get a T-shirt but wouldn't change anything.

Check with Go Graham Go and Jolly Mom for more Mom Time in '09 fun and giveaways.

OK...so I'm unemployed and, after a few weeks to catch up on stuff around the house, I now have too much time on my hands. Here is my "Stuff": I made another cap (ball cap style), a dish cloth (shape of a star and the middle is made of plastic shopping bags and creates a "scrubby", and last but not least a decorative scarf (only about 2 inches wide and I've woven ribbon thru the spaces). I love creating with my hands but it doesn't pay the bills. I gotta find a job! LOL Enjoy!

Tip from Heloise

Cleaning Washing Machine Interior

If you notice a residue buildup, left from detergents or hard-water minerals, you can remove them by filling the washer with hot water and pouring in a gallon of cheap white or apple cider vinegar. Run it through one complete cycle and it should be gone. Do this only periodically, so you don't damage the interior surface.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching so you need to get busy and get all those cards made. Here is one of mine!

Sisterhood in the blogosphere!

In my short time of being part of the blogosphere I have come across many great blogs and nice people.

Felicia at Go Graham Go (also known as my daughter) has bestowed the Sisterhood award upon me. The Sisterhood award is inspired by the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and was created by Diana to be given to your best bloggy girlfriend(s). You give them the award to thank them for their special friendship.
I now bestow the "Sisterhood" award upon:

Jenny of Petalz and Finz
Spotted Cow Soaps
Darlene of Mommy's Gibble Gabbles
Karen over at Karen & Gerard Zemek

Now go check my "Sisters" out.

Recycle Fun

Is it just me or are plastic shopping bags like rabbits...they seem to multiply over night!!!!! At least that's the way it is at my house. In a discussion about this fact one day, a friend commented that his mother crocheted the plastic shopping bags into hats. I was intrigued so I started searching for information and came up with several ideas to keep these pesky items out of the landfill.

Market Bag
Dog Bed

I have found several sites that show hats but have been unable to find the patterns. If you know of other crafty ideas for plastic shopping bags let me know.

Weight-Loss Tips???

Was your New Year's Resolution to loose weight? I know I'm the only one that struggles with weight issues...right? LOL I've tried many things to loose weight but I've recently come across some truly unusual weight-loss tips.

One such tip involves the...Toothpaste Diet!!!! Excuse me, but does anyone else find this "Weird"?

No, they don’t suggest that you have to suck down tubes of toothpaste. Rather they say that the minty fresh paste can help you stick to your diet.

If portion control is your dieting downfall, and you can’t resist your favorite goodies, they suggest that you brush your teeth with mint-flavored toothpaste after your meal.

Supposedly this will tell your brain the meal’s over and if you’re tempted to take another bite, they claim that most food doesn't taste good with a mouth full of cool mint flavor. Plus, the slick feeling of clean teeth is supposed to be enough to keep you from wanting to chow down some more.

I'm sure your dentist, and the toothpaste manufacturers, will thank you. If nothing else, brushing your teeth after meals is good dental hygiene.

They also suggest that if you don't have a toothbrush and toothpaste on hand every time you eat, or if you feel a snack attack coming on, you should reach for sugarless mint gum instead.

I'm not sure this is the diet for me but it couldn't hurt the dental bill! Show me those "pearly whites" and slim down?! LOL
