LABOR DAY MAKE SOMETHING MONDAY

It's starting to cool off here in the mountains of WNC so I've turned my attention to makeing things to keep warm. My Sunday School group was told of a need at our local hospital for blankets and other items for the "Mother/Baby" unit. Not "NICU" but the regular new born unit. Seems with the economy and jobless rate today many mothers do not have the necessary items to take their newborns home in, i.e. blankets and clothes. I've made preemie hats for the NICU for a long time but never knew, or thought about, the others. I guess with my unemployment status I've become more aware of others and their problems.

I've started making newborn (full term) size caps and here are 2 that I just finished. I don't have a baby or a baby doll to put them on so the teddy bear and cat will have to do. When researching what size to make for the different units I found a pattern that said:
  • A Micro preemies hat will fit a plum
  • A small preemie will fit a tangerine
  • A preemie will fit an orange and
  • A full term will fit a grapefruit
I made one for the Micro preemie and couldn't fathem the size. God blessed me with 2 beautiful, normal children and to try to imagine these sizes is just mind boggling. I want to challenge you to get involved, if you aren't already, in doing something to help those who are less fortunate than we are. Yes, I am unemployed, but God is providing for me and he commands that I "pay it forward" to others. He'll take care of the rest!!!!! Amen!

Pay it Forward, Yes, I try to do this as often as I can.. And I think it is so wonderful that you are helping the Moms and their babies! :)

Such a blessing you are. Our bible study group is trying to figure out what project to take on right now and I was suggesting that each of us open our home to a family or a child for the holidays...build a continuous relationship. It's going really well and we pray God will be in the midst of these decisions.

Now I love this idea of turning my attention to mothers in the hospital.
